The virtual item group object is treated like all the other lists in AssetWise. Special metadata type document classes must be defined for virtual item groups.

The following two types of document classes can be used, each behaving differently:

• Virtual Item Baseline – This class type is used when you want to freeze both the virtual item structure and its relationships to other objects, on approval of the virtual item group.
• Virtual Item Structure – This class type is used when you want to only freeze the virtual item structure, on approval of the virtual item group. Relationships to documents and physical items can be created or removed, but the structure cannot be altered.
